                   Simple Past Tense - Regular verbs (verbos regulares) - I

           O passado simples é usado para indicar ações concluídas em um tempo definido.

           Frequentemente, é empregado com advérbios de tempo como: yesterday, ago, last night, last week, last month, last year, etc.

           Ex: I worked yesterday. (Eu trabalhei ontem.)

           É empregado sem marcadores de tempo quando o contexto indicar que a ação aconteceu no passado.

            Ex: I was in New York. I entered a department store.

            * O passado simples pode indicar também hábitos ou situações que aconteceram no passado.

                   Ex: I lived in Paris when I was young.

                     FORMAÇÃO DOS VERBOS REGULARES

         A formação dos verbos regulares é feita acrescentando-se ED ao infinitivo dos verbos.

         Ex: live - lived         wait - waited        play - played

         Porém, há algumas exceções, tais como:

 * Verbos terminados em e, acrescenta-se somente d ao final do verbo.

         Ex: love - loved            dance - danced         change - changed

* Verbos terminados em y precedidos de consoante, troca-se o y, por ied.

         Ex: carry - carried           study - studied        cry - cried

* Verbos terminados em y precedido de vogal, acrescenta-se somente ed.

         Ex; play - played           enjoy - enjoyed           

* Verbos de uma só silaba terminados em C-V-C (consoante - vogal - consoante) , dobramos a última consoante e acrescentamos ed.

          Ex: rob - robbed             stop - stopped

* Verbos de duas sílabas, sendo a última sílaba tônica e com final em C-V-C, dobramos a última consoante e acrescentamos ed.

            Ex: emit -    emitted           control -    controlled

                    tônica                               tônica

 Obs: Em inglês britânico, se o verbo termina em l, dobra-se essa consoante mesmo que a última sílaba não seja tônica.

             Ex: travel - travelled              rival - rivalled
